Sand Creek Massacre: Acknowledgement and Repair, May 22, University of Denver

A day long symposium on acknowledgement and repair for the Sand Creek Massacre will take place Friday at DU at Reiman Theater in Margery Reed Hall.  I will be speaking on the initial panel at 9 am with Dean Saitta, Billy Stratton, Nancy Wadsworth, Richard Clemmer-Smith, and Steve Fisher.

That  will be followed by a panel on recommendations on possibilities for repair at 10:30, a panel featuring Otto Braided-hair, Bishop Elaine Stanovsky of the Methodist Church, Chancellor Rebecca Chopp, Iliff Chancellor Tom Wolfe and Ernest House who led the Governor’s commission at 1:30.  A final, and I think especially intense and moving, panel will be of descendants of the Cheyennes and Arapahoes and of John Evans at 3:30.
