Poem: here and now

The cat
without a name
walks up the mountain driveway
step for step
with a fox
black    fiery red
hair on end
night creatures
the cat
whose twin
from the shelter
inseparable
in sleep
pulled out his whiskers
vanished one night
eaten in the forest
– I stretch
catlike
to an old photo
of a boy at two in funny clothes
stroking a Siamese’s
bereft
the cat
now cries
for
colliepuppy
walks with us
year by year
out of the driveway

into the dark
